아홉살 준이가 알아들은 영어 'forbidden forest'

어떻게 알아들어?

그거 있잖아. 해그리드가 데리고 갔던 숲이잖아. 켄타우르스도 나오거든.

우와 대단하다. forbidden forest라고 듣고 어떻게 그걸 떠올려?

영화에서 봤잖아.

....

그 장면과 소리를 통째로 기억한 셈이야, 준이가.

영어니 국어니 하는 언어개념이 끼어들 틈이 없었던 거지. 흥미진진한 장면이 소리와 함께 머릿속에 그대로 입력된거야. 켄타우르스까지 말야.

Was it man, or a horse? To the waist, a man, with red hair and beard, but below that was a horse's gleaming chestnut body with a long, reddish tail. 

근데 이곳 금지된 숲 이야기는 그렇게 재미있는 것만은 아니잖아. 무시무시하거든. 

침대속에 있어야 할 호그와트의 아이들 - 해리와 헤르미온 등 - 이 기숙사를 벗어나 학교 이곳저곳을 다니다가 들켜서 받게된 벌이기도 하고. 그 음산한 숲의 기운은 곧 전해지지. 

Did that sound like hooves to you? nah, if yeh ask me, that was what's bin killin' the unicorns - never heard anythin' like it before.

그리고는 결국

Something bright white was gleaming on the ground. It was the unicorn all right, and it was dead. Its long, slenders legs were struck out at odd angles where it had fallen and its mane was spread pearly-white on the dark leaves.

그짓을 한 놈이 곧 밝혀지지

The hooded figure raised its head and looked right at Harry - unicorn blood was dribbling down its front. It got its feet and came swiftly toward Harry - he couldn't move.

공포의 순간만큼 분명하게 기억나는 게 또 있을까?

준이 기억속의 forbidden forest는 그래서 더 생생한 게 아닐까?
